Baseball Recap: Newburyport Comes Up Short

Newburyport lost against Haverhill back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Clippers came up short against the Hillies, falling 8-2. The Clippers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Newburyport got a good showing from Tim Sheehan, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sheehan has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jack Oreal was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Mercier, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Newburyport's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Haverhill, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-13.

Coincidentally, Newburyport and Haverhill will both be playing Whittier RVT the next time they take the field. The Clippers will head out to face the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Hillies will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
