Baseball Recap: Poudre Takes a Loss

Poudre extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 8-8 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Denver East Angels. The Impalas were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Angels apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Poudre got a good showing from Jake Fontana, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Fontana a new career-low.

As for Denver East, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-11. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since March 30, 2024.

On Denver East's side, they got a great performance from Kaeden Zirlin as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Zirlin also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Angels are 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Denver East secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Evan L'Herault, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Jon Moran also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Poudre will be playing at home against Windsor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Impalas' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wizards have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season. As for Denver East, they are taking a road trip to square off against Rangeview at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.06 runs per game on average), something the Angels will no doubt try to take advantage of.
