Basketball Recap: Classical Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Lawson Schreiner and Owen Bouchilllon

Classical Academy extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 1-7. They fell 71-61 to the El Capitan Vaqueros. If the Caimans were looking for revenge after losing 67-47 to the Vaqueros when the teams met back in December of 2019, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Classical Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Owen Bouchilllon and Lawson Schreiner. Bouchilllon posted 18 points, while Schreiner had 17 points. Nathan French was another key player, putting up nine points.

As for El Capitan, the victory got them back to even at 3-3. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 51.3 points per game.

Leading El Capitan to victory were Jason Wilson and Trystan Billinger. Wilson dropped a double-double with 23 points and 11 assists, while Billinger went 8-for-15 to rack up 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevin Curo, who earned eight points and 16 rebounds.

Classical Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-43 victory against Valley Center on the 11th. As for El Capitan, they will head out on the road to challenge Calexico at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vaqueros' defense better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 62.9 points per game this season.
