Basketball Recap: Merceius Mili's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Skyridge over Mountain Ridge

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Skyridge can now relate to. They fell to the Mountain Ridge Sentinels 59-55. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Sentinels recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Skyridge's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Merceius Mili, who posted 15 points and six boards. Mili's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Lillian Meyer, who scored nine points.

Even though they lost, Skyridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Ridge only five offensive boards.

It was another big night for Kya Newton, who went 7-for-14 on her way to 23 points and three steals for Mountain Ridge. That's the most points Newton has posted since back in November of 2023. Jessica Maynard was another key player, putting up seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

Skyridge's defeat dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Mountain Ridge, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

Skyridge does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mountain Ridge, they will square off against Copper Hills at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Copper Hills will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Mountain Ridge surely won't give up without a fight.
