Basketball Recap: North East Carolina Prep Comes Up Short

North East Carolina Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Washington County Panthers 72-45. The Husky lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 92-37 score last time.

Despite the loss, North East Carolina Prep still got an impressive performance from Chadwick Barnes, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 16 boards. Barnes is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Harris, who posted seven points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, North East Carolina Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington County only pulled down ten offensive boards.

Washington County was led to victory by Christian Phelps and Brandon Carter Jr.. Phelps dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Carter Jr. went 8 of 15 en route to 24 points along with five boards and three steals. ZyQuan Sanders was another key player, putting up ten points.

North East Carolina Prep's loss dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Washington County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

North East Carolina Prep has already played their next matchup, a 72-49 defeat against Bertie on the 5th. As for Washington County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-52 loss against Martin County on the 5th.
