The Hurricane Redskins will challenge the George Washington Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hurricane is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
While Hurricane's win against St. Albans wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Redskins never let the Red Dragons get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Redskins have posted since April 3rd.
The result came thanks to Kate Justice's shutout, as she gave up just six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Hurricane saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kylie Bailey, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Riverside hit George Washington with a eight-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Patriots came up short against the Warriors, falling 12-4.
Natali Tomblin made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Hurricane has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for George Washington, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hurricane hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like George Washington struggles in that department as they've averaged .350. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
