Baseball Recap: Highland Tech Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Highland Tech won the last time they faced Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Rams were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Gryphons. Considering the Rams have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Coleman Schafer made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Highland Tech is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-8 otherwise. Schafer was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Erwing Soza was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Highland Tech is 6-1 when Soza posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Grayson Lunsford, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Highland Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The victory (which was Highland Tech's third in a row) raised their record to 8-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

Highland Tech will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gryphons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
