Softball Recap: Foothill Gets the Win

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Foothill ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Monte Vista Mustangs by a score of 9-6. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Myra Galzie made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over ten innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexa Sponsel, who went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Madden Dinsley-Klinefelter also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Foothill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Foothill now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Monte Vista, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Foothill will square off against Dublin at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Gaels will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last. As for Monte Vista, they will face off against Carondelet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
