Baseball Game Preview: Lucas Cubs vs. New London Wildcats

The Lucas Cubs will head out to face off against the New London Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Lucas is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game dating back to last season on Saturday. They fell 7-4 to Mansfield Senior.

Brady Anschutz was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Anschutz was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Will Whitesel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles.

Meanwhile, New London had to start their season on the road on Saturday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of Buckeye Central.

Everything went Lucas' way against New London in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Lucas made off with a 12-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cubs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
