Baseball Recap: Drew Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Athenian, Drew was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past The Bay School Breakers 8-6. This was a revenge game for the Dragons: when they faced off against the Breakers back in March, they had to take a 16-0 loss.

Kyle Ebrado and Jonas Tobener were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ebrado struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, Tobener tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Drew is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise. At bat, Ebrado went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Tobener went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Ebrado has posted since back in March.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Ward, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Drew kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 8.8.

The win got Drew back to even at 9-9. As for The Bay School, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-4.

Coming up, Drew will head out to challenge San Francisco Waldorf at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.57 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. The Bay School does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
