Softball Recap: Cary Academy Gets the Win

Cary Academy took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Ravenscroft, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Chargers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ravens on Thursday, sneaking past 16-15. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Chargers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Serena Patel made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Skyler Jayasooriya was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Anika Kadumpalli was another key player, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Cary Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Cary Academy pushed their record up to 5-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Ravenscroft, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cary Academy will face off against Durham Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cavaliers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.5 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ravenscroft, they will challenge American Leadership Academy-Johnston at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Ravens are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
