Basketball Recap: Elbert Comes Up Short

Elbert was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Kiowa Indians, falling 44-19. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their loss to the Indians from their previous meeting back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Elbert saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Piper Warren almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine boards. Warren is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games she's played. Maisey Petersen also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Even though they lost, Elbert smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kiowa only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Deb Flipse was her usual excellent self, going 6-for-8 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and seven steals for Kiowa. Flipse has become a key player for Kiowa: the team is 4-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 2-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sage Massey, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Elbert's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Kiowa, their record is now 6-9.

Elbert has already played their next matchup, a 46-22 defeat against Arickaree on the 8th. As for Kiowa, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 34-13 loss against Genoa-Hugo/Karval on the 8th.
