Volleyball Game Preview: Shawnee Mission West Vikings vs. Mill Valley Jaguars

Shawnee Mission West hasn't had much luck against Mill Valley recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Vikings will venture away from home to face off against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

It was a classic East v. West duel when Shawnee Mission West duked it out with Shawnee Mission East on Tuesday. The Vikings fell 3-1 to the Lancers.

While Shawnee Mission West had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23.

Meanwhile, Mill Valley faced Olathe Northwest in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Jaguars fell just short of the Ravens by a score of 3-2. Jaguars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Ravens since Tuesday.

Mill Valley actually scored more points across those five sets (105-99), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The final score came out to 25-18, 14-25, 27-25, 18-25, 15-12.

Mill Valley's loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 15-4. As for Shawnee Mission West, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11-2.

Shawnee Mission West came up short against Mill Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 3-1. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
