Volleyball Recap: Doral Academy's Win on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Three + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Doral Academy had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Cypress Bay Lightning by a score of 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Firebirds sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Doral Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21.

Doral Academy found their leader in sophomore Amy Smith, who had three aces and two blocks. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 17 or more in each of the last 13 games she's played.

Doral Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their ace total in three consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Bay lost, don't look at Julia Diaz. Despite the final result, she had 22 digs.

Doral Academy's win bumped their record up to 16-13. As for Cypress Bay, their defeat ended an 11-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-8.

Coming up, after both having extra time off, Doral Academy and Winter Park will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 7:00 p.m. on November 6. Cypress Bay does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
