Volleyball Recap: American Canyon Wolves vs. San Leandro Pirates

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only American Canyon walked away with it. They won by a set and slipped past the San Leandro Pirates 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wolves.

American Canyon wouldn't go down easily and took San Leandro into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 19-25, 20-18.

Hector Valencia paced American Canyon's offense, picking up 20 kills. Valencia got some help from Joshua Hmun and his 46 assists. Finally, Cylar Echevarria kept American Canyon's defense grounded, leading the team with five blocks.

San Leandro's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Eric Stowe, who had 19 digs and one assist, and Andrew Nguyen, who had eight digs, six kills, and two blocks. Nguyen is on a roll when it comes to kills, as he's now had five or more in each of the last four games he's played.

American Canyon's win bumped their record up to 22-6. As for San Leandro, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-10.

Coming up, American Canyon will take on International at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something the Wolves surely won't give up without a fight. San Leandro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
