The East Ascension Spartans will face off against D'Arbonne Woods at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. East Ascension is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
East Ascension took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 14-3 margin over Oak Grove. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Mckenzie Creel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last ten games. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, East Ascension got a massive performance out of Adelynne Bradberry, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Bradberry has posted over her last 14 contests. Another player making a difference was Cayden Tullier, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
East Ascension hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in 11 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, D'Arbonne Woods posted their closest win since March 16, 2024 on Thursday. They skirted past St. Frederick 3-2. The game was the first time D'Arbonne Woods has beaten St. Frederick on their field since March 25, 2017.
Aubrey Zachary spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Joley Bennett was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Edwards, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
D'Arbonne Woods is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. East Ascension's victory bumped their record up to 9-7.
