Preview: Derry Trojans vs. Ligonier Valley Rams
The Derry Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ligonier Valley Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Derry will be strutting in after a win while Ligonier Valley will be coming in after a loss.
Derry had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 29-22 victory over Burrell on Friday. The victory was just what Derry needed coming off of a 45-7 defeat in their prior game.
Ahmad Ward went supernova for Derry, rushing for 249 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Ligonier Valley fell victim to Imani Christian Academy's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 31-0 loss at the hands of the Saints. While losing is never fun, Ligonier Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 500th, while Imani Christian Academy is ranked 191st).
Even if they lost, Ligonier Valley's defensive line sure didn't make it easy: Imani Christian Academy's QB was sacked six times before it was all said and done. Imani Christian Academy's QB won't forget Hunter Carr anytime soon given Carr sacked him six times.
Derry's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Ligonier Valley, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7.
Derry took a serious blow against Ligonier Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 51-7. Thankfully for Derry, Haden Sierocky (who rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also picked up 33 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
