Preview: Berkeley Stags vs. Cane Bay Cobras

Berkeley and Cane Bay are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Berkeley Stags will be playing at home against the Cane Bay Cobras at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Tuesday, Berkeley earned a 55-46 win over Stratford. Given Berkeley's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while Stratford is ranked 192nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Berkeley found their leader in underclassman Madison Thomas, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Caldwell, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Cane Bay posted their closest win yet this season on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Stratford out 51-49. The victory was just what Cane Bay needed coming off of a 60-30 loss in their prior game.

The win makes it two in a row for Berkeley and bumps their season record up to 13-4. As for Cane Bay, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-14.

Berkeley came up short against Cane Bay in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 32-27. Can Berkeley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
