Softball Game Preview: Thornapple Kellogg Trojans vs. Wayland Wildcats

Thornapple Kellogg is 0-4 against Wayland since May of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Catholic Central hit Thornapple Kellogg with a eight-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Neither the Trojans nor the Cougars could gain the upper hand so the two teams had to settle for a 14-14 tie.

Meanwhile, Wayland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. Everything went their way against the Comets as they made off with a 16-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Wayland pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. Thornapple Kellogg's draw makes their record 6-5-1 this season.
