Volleyball Recap: Bernalillo Spartans vs. Shiprock Chieftains
There's no place like home for Bernalillo, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Shiprock Chieftains on Saturday.
Bernalillo wouldn't go down easily and took Shiprock into a fifth set where they got it done with a three-point win. The final score came out to 24-26, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19, 15-12.
Bernalillo had a senior duo take command as Kaylina Tortalita had 17 digs and Jaelynn Valencia had 12 digs. Those 17 digs set a new season-high mark for Tortalita.
Bernalillo was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 20 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 16 consecutive matchups.
The victory got Bernalillo back to even at 8-8. As for Shiprock, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
