Centennial has gone 9-1 against Bishop Gorman recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Bulldogs are taking a road trip to take on the Gaels at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Centennial's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Desert Oasis. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Diamondbacks: they've now won seven in a row.
The result came thanks to Lily Fournier's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Valeria Lopez was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hailey Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.
Centennial hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Bishop Gorman got the win against Silverado on Thursday by a conclusive 20-0. Considering the Gaels have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
MAKAMAE EUGENIO made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). EUGENIO was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CHARLIE SIMI, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. ISABELLA RODRIGUEZ was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Bishop Gorman has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-9-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Centennial, their record now sits at 13-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Centennial hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bishop Gorman struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Centennial skirted past Bishop Gorman 5-4 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
