Basketball Recap: Marcos de Niza Takes a Loss

Marcos de Niza lost against Saguaro back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Marcos de Niza Padres lost to the Saguaro Sabercats at home by a 87-68 margin.

Despite the loss, Marcos de Niza still got an impressive performance from James Steward, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 19 boards. That was a full 41.2% of Marcos de Niza's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. J.D Dubose was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Saguaro found their leader in freshman Bentley Elrod, who went 8 of 15 on his way to 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Elrod has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Miller, who went 5 for 8 en route to 12 points.

Marcos de Niza's record is now 13-8. As for Saguaro, they pushed their record up to 13-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marcos de Niza will square off against Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Marcos de Niza is facing Arcadia at the right time seeing as Arcadia is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Saguaro has already played their next game (against Mesquite), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
