Softball Recap: Lancaster Drops Highest Score of Season Against Palmdale

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lancaster). They put the hurt on the Palmdale Falcons with a sharp 26-1 win on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Cassandra Velasquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Velasquez was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also got two hits, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Jordyn Zinn was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three doubles. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Sam Salas, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Lancaster always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .775. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Lancaster's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 4-2. As for Palmdale, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lancaster will venture away from home to take on Littlerock at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Palmdale, they are taking a road trip to square off against Antelope Valley at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
