Baseball Recap: Melrose-Mindoro Beats Independence/Gilmanton for Their Third Straight Win

Melrose-Mindoro hadn't done well against Independence/Gilmanton recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Mustangs blew past the Indees 10-0. The Mustangs were shut out 2-0 the last time they took on the Indees, so the Mustangs were just returning the favor.

The result came thanks to Colton Koss's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Melrose-Mindoro let Brady Blaken and Brett Peterson run wild. Blaken went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Peterson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Blaken is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

The victory (which was Melrose-Mindoro's third in a row) raised their record to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Independence/Gilmanton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.

Melrose-Mindoro will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indees: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
