Baseball Recap: West Iredell Triumphs

West Iredell hadn't done well against Foard recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Warriors narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Tigers 6-4. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Michael Davis tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of West Iredell's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-2 (and 2-8 when he doesn't).

At the plate, West Iredell let Damien Sharpe and Sebastion Pearson run wild. Sharpe scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Pearson scored a run while going 1-for-1. The dominant performance also gave Pearson a new career-high in RBI (two).

West Iredell's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Foard, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-13.

West Iredell will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Tigers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
