Softball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Willowbrook's Winning Streak

Willowbrook dropped their record down to 12-8 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 13-5 to the Downers Grove South Mustangs. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 13-1 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Willowbrook saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabel Bates, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Sonia Ruchala was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.

As for Downers Grove South, they pushed their record up to 10-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Downers Grove South's side, Danielle Carson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Carson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jordan Balsavich was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Barowski, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willowbrook will head out to square off against York at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Downers Grove South, they will venture away from home to challenge Proviso East at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs are facing the Pirates at the right time seeing as the Pirates are stuck on a 12-game losing streak.
