Baseball Recap: Poly Prep Country Day Continues Home Dominance on Wednesday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Broward, Poly Prep Country Day was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top against the St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Vikings by a score of 4-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Blue Devils also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2021.

Justice De Jong spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Owen Ten Oever was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.

Poly Prep Country Day pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Poly Prep Country Day is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will take on St. Anthony's at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Devils 4, the Friars 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea, they will head out on the road to face off against Monsignor Scanlan at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
