Volleyball Recap: Lakeland Comes Up Short

Lakeland came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 3-0 to the Auburndale Bloodhounds. The Dreadnaughts were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bloodhounds earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

While Lakeland ultimately came up short, they really made Auburndale work, particularly in the second set. The final score came out to 25-14, 27-25, 25-19.

Despite the loss, Lakeland saw an underclassman step up: freshman Casen Feacher had 17 digs and two aces.

Auburndale's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Randy Tillman, who had 13 digs and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Tillman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Crespo-Jimenez, who had 26 digs and one assist.

The defeat snapped Lakeland's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-10 record. As for Auburndale, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4.

Looking ahead, Lakeland will welcome George Jenkins at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 19th straight victory, something the Dreadnaughts surely won't give up without a fight. As for Auburndale, they will head out to take on Bartow at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
