Volleyball Recap: Mattoon Takes a Loss

Mattoon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 2-0 to the Effingham Hearts. The Greenwave were not able to make up for their loss to the Hearts from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Zion Johnson paced Mattoon's offense, picking up nine kills. Johnson got some help from Khloe Hall and her 19 assists. Kacey Ramage controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

Mattoon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Effingham, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season.

Mattoon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Okaw Valley on the 20th. As for Effingham, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-1 victory against Carbondale on the 20th.
