Softball Recap: Payson Lions vs. Snow Canyon Warriors

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Payson had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged the Snow Canyon Warriors out 3-2. The victory was familiar territory for Payson who now have six in a row.

Peyton Staheli spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Payson's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Adi Duke, who went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

On Snow Canyon's side, they also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Avery Thorkelson gave up two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those eight innings set a new season-high mark for her.

Payson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. As for Snow Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 19-7.
