Baseball Game Preview: Columbine Rebels vs. Lakewood Tigers

Columbine and Lakewood are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Rebels will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The match will give Columbine their first taste of in-conference action this season.

Last Tuesday, Columbine beat Conifer 4-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rebels.

The team relied heavily on Matthew Kossik, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Columbine is undefeated when Kossik posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Lakewood hadn't done well against Mountain Range recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over the Mustangs.

Lakewood got a massive performance out of Sean Lann, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Lann a new career-high. Another player making a difference was CJ Mahoney, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Columbine's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Lakewood, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Everything went Columbine's way against Lakewood in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Columbine made off with a 17-0 win. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
