The Webb Schools Gauls will challenge the Calvary Baptist Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Webb Schools has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with nine straight losses, while Calvary Baptist will come in with seven straight victories.
The Webb Schools lost 14-2 to Capistrano Valley Christian two weeks ago.
Alec Kaushal made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Gavin Hamilton also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist put their dominant pitchers on display in the team's fourth consecutive shutout on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Bethel Christian a 13-0 shutout. Considering the Cougars have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Chris Bacarella and R.J. Franco were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Bacarella struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Franco struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Bacarella has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Bacarella scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3, while Franco went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Bacarella is becoming a predictor of Calvary Baptist's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devin Debuono, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Calvary Baptist: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Zaedik Mcphail was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Calvary Baptist was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .351 or higher in seven consecutive games.
Calvary Baptist pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for The Webb Schools, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
