Basketball Recap: Salem Comes Up Short

Salem suffered their biggest defeat since December 21, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 58-37 to the Austintown-Fitch Falcons. The Quakers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Austintown-Fitch to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rachel Spalding, who went 8 of 14 en route to 21 points and six boards. That's the most points Spalding has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Severn, who went 6 for 11 to rack up 12 points in addition to six steals and five assists.

Salem's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Austintown-Fitch, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11.

Coming up, Salem will be taking part in a tournament against Struthers at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. As for Austintown-Fitch, they will head out to take on South Range at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Austintown-Fitch is facing South Range at the right time seeing as South Range is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
