Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Pendleton Heights

Mt. Vernon faced Pendleton Heights in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Marauders skirted past the Arabians 7-5. For the Marauders, this counts as revenge for the 4-3 win the Arabians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Andrew Boldt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Mt. Vernon is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Meyer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bryndan Wylie, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Mt. Vernon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Mt. Vernon now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Pendleton Heights, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 10-1.

Mt. Vernon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Arabians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
