Baseball Recap: Adams Central Has No Trouble Against Southern Wells

Adams Central came out on top against Southern Wells on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run sixth inning. The Flying Jets blew past the Raiders 13-1. The Flying Jets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 12 runs or more this season.

Cade Van De Weg spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. Adams Central is 2-1 when Van De Weg posts eight or more strikeouts, but 2-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Adams Central got a massive performance out of Hayden Bluhm, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those RBI were Bluhm's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Byerly, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Adams Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Adams Central's record is now 4-5. As for Southern Wells, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-3.

Adams Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-5 loss against Monroe Central on the 26th. As for Southern Wells, they will venture away from home to face off against Bluffton at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
