Softball Game Preview: Modesto Panthers vs. Gregori Jaguars

Modesto is 1-9 against Gregori since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. Modesto is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.

Last Thursday, Modesto came up short against Pitman and fell 10-5.

Alyssa Ramirez put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Aaliyah Williams and Kayla Contreras stepped up to the plate in a big way. Williams scored two runs while going 2-for-4, while Contreras went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, after a string of seven wins, Gregori's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell 10-6 to Enochs. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Jaguars, who until this contest were averaging 3.93 runs allowed.

Angelina Hoffman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Modesto's record now sits at 6-13. As for Gregori, their record is now 12-3.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Modesto has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Gregori struggles in that department as they've averaged .471. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Modesto might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Gregori when the teams last played back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
