Baseball Recap: Bayfront Charter Takes a Loss

Bayfront Charter had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-8 to make it five. They lost 39-3 to the Mountain Empire Redhawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Sharks of the 21-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

As for Mountain Empire, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.

For Mountain Empire's part, Jakob Shawcroft was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Shawcroft has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, firing off three triples, five runs, and two stolen bases while going 6-for-6. Those three triples gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Mountain Empire got a massive performance out of Luis Cardoso, who went 5-for-7 with five stolen bases, five runs, and three RBI. Those five hits gave Cardoso a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Leon, who got on base in four of his seven plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases.

Coming up, Bayfront Charter is taking a road trip to take on High Tech Mesa at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mountain Empire, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Liberty Charter at 3:30 p.m.
