Preview: Greenwood Woodmen vs. Shelbyville Golden Bears
Greenwood has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Shelbyville Golden Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greenwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 380th, while Shelbyville is ranked 148th).
Last Saturday, Greenwood was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-39 to Columbus North.
The losing side was boosted by Jake Mosemann, who scored 20 points. Mosemann set a new season high mark in points with 20. The team also got some help courtesy of John Ollanketo, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Shelbyville's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 65-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Whiteland. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Shelbyville in their matchups with Whiteland: they've now lost five in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Mar Nicholson, who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. The matchup was Nicholson's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Caden Claxton, who scored 16 points.
Greenwood's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 0-5. As for Shelbyville, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-1.
Greenwood strolled past Shelbyville when the teams last played back in December of 2022 by a score of 47-32. The rematch might be a little tougher for Greenwood since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
