Basketball Recap: Izzie Galligan and Avril Smith Secure Win for Millard North

Millard North won the last time they faced Columbus and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Millard North Mustangs blew past the Columbus Discoverers 73-53. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Millard North to victory were Avril Smith and Izzie Galligan. Smith went 9 of 11 en route to 20 points and eight rebounds, while Galligan went 7 for 11 on her way to 20 points. The dominant performance gave Galligan a new career-high in points. Clara Welker was another key player, putting up six points and eight assists.

Millard North pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Columbus, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-4 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. It'll be Northside v. Southside when Millard North and Millard South meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Millard South is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.5 points per game this season. As for Columbus, they will face off against Lincoln High at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
