Volleyball Recap: Rocky Mountain Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Rocky Mountain can now relate to. They lost 3-0 to the Fossil Ridge SaberCats on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the SaberCats this season, with their most recent loss being a 3-0 defeat back in October.

Rocky Mountain was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the first set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-23, 25-11, 25-21.

Fossil Ridge was led to victory by Trinity Burchett and Shanin Pottle. Burchett had 12 digs and six assists, while Pottle had six digs and three aces. That's the most assists Burchett has posted since back in September.

Rocky Mountain's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Fossil Ridge, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-2.

Coincidentally, Rocky Mountain and Fossil Ridge will both be playing Fruita Monument the next time they take the court. The Lobos will head out to face the Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the SaberCats will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
