Baseball Game Preview: Sky View Bobcats vs. Mountain Crest Mustangs

Sky View is 0-10 against Mountain Crest since April of 2023 but things could change on Tuesday. The Bobcats will square off against the Mustangs at 3:00 p.m.

Deseret Peak hit Sky View with a four-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bobcats came up short against the Golden Eagles, falling 8-2.

Sky View saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Lofthouse, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Mountain Crest entered their tilt with Tooele on Saturday with eight consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with nine. They put the hurt on the Buffaloes with a sharp 9-1 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Ben Welch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mountain Crest got a big performance out of Mason Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most hits Smith has posted over his last 12 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Pehrson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Mountain Crest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tooele only posted a batting average of .259.

Sky View's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Mountain Crest, their record is now 17-2.

Sky View couldn't quite finish off Mountain Crest in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
