Basketball Recap: Desert Heights Prep Takes a Loss

Desert Heights Prep was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 42-19 to the North Phoenix Preparatory Academy Gladiators. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Yote this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 36-20 back in December of 2024.

North Phoenix Preparatory Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lainey Wakeham, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. That's the most points Wakeham has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sabrina Daniel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards.

Desert Heights Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for North Phoenix Preparatory Academy, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Desert Heights Prep has already played their next match (against Anthem Prep), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy will take on Trivium Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Phoenix Preparatory Academy's defense has only allowed 24.1 points per game this season, so Trivium Prep's offense will have their work cut out for them.
