Basketball Recap: Lakewood Starts Season with Win Against Red Springs + How To Watch

Lakewood gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. Everything went their way against the Red Springs Red Devils as they made off with a 46-20 victory. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Leopards had established a 23-point advantage.

Areona Mckoy had a dynamite game, almost dropping a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds. Her big performance that evening made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jahmai Rich, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards.

Lakewood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 15 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Red Springs lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Saniyah Sinclair, who posted six points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailey Locklear, who had five points and five rebounds.

Red Springs now has a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Lakewood will host Lejeune at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Red Springs, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
