Softball Game Preview: Grimsley Whirlies vs. Western Guilford Hornets

Grimsley is on a five-game streak of home losses, and Western Guilford a 15-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Grimsley Whirlies will be playing in front of their home fans against the Western Guilford Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

On Wednesday, Grimsley didn't have quite enough to beat Williams and fell 10-9.

Meanwhile, Western Guilford lost 23-13 to Ben L. Smith on Wednesday. Even if the Hornets couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Natalie Espitia made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and six RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nat Eaves, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

Western Guilford's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Grimsley, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-10.

Grimsley took their victory against Western Guilford in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 16-0 score. Do the Whirlies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hornets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
