Basketball Recap: Avon Skates Past Lebanon with Ease

Avon had already won four in a row and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 63-36 victory over the Lebanon Tigers. The Orioles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 27 points or more this season.

Avon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aniah Smith led the charge by putting up 17 points along with seven boards and five steals. Smith has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 24 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Soryah Hart, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points and seven rebounds.

Lebanon's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Claire Boling, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards, and Jade Mount, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points. Another player making a difference was Marina Barr, who posted two points.

Avon's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. As for Lebanon, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Avon will face off against Hamilton Southeastern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lebanon, they will take on Western Boone at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lebanon is facing Western Boone at the right time seeing as Western Boone is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
