Basketball Recap: Dunnellon Comes Up Short

Dunnellon lost against Lake Weir back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Dunnellon Tigers lost to the Lake Weir Hurricanes on the road by a 71-56 margin. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Dunnellon lost, don't look at Eli Nelson. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 19 on his way to 23 points and six rebounds. The match was Nelson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Tre'Quori Rollerson was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Lake Weir got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Antonio Jackson out in front who went 6 of 10 on his way to 16 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Amar Young, who posted 16 points and three steals.

Dunnellon's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Lake Weir, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Dunnellon and West Port will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday without much rest having both just played. Dunnellon is facing West Port at the right time seeing as West Port is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Lake Weir, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Forest at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Weir is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.
