Basketball Recap: Belmont Takes a Loss

Belmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Mercy McAuley Wolves and fell 63-11. The Bison were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-5.

Mashayla Valentine was Belmont's leading scorer, having posted nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mercy McAuley to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jordyn Leary, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those 12 points gave Leary a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ady Kreimer, who went 6 for 12 en route to 14 points.

Belmont's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Mercy McAuley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-12 record this season.

Belmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mercy McAuley, they will welcome Taft at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mercy McAuley is facing Taft at the right time seeing as Taft is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
