Baseball Recap: Carlinville Comes Up Short

Carlinville had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-10 to make it four. They lost 6-0 to the Southwestern Piasa Birds. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavaliers of the 10-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Southwestern, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

For Southwestern's part, Ian Brantley was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Carlinville will face off against Litchfield at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Southwestern, they will square off against New Berlin/Franklin/Waverly at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
