Basketball Recap: Boardman Comes Up Short

Boardman's game on Wednesday was all tied up 21-21 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell just short of the Salem Quakers by a score of 43-41. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Quakers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.

Defeat or not, Boardman got some senior leadership from Ava Freeborough and Sarah Bero. Freeborough posted 11 points, while Bero scored six points and eight boards. Another player making a difference was Victoria Strines, who earned five points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Boardman smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

This is the second loss in a row for Boardman and nudges their season record down to 2-5. As for Salem, they moved to 3-4 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Boardman will take on Hubbard in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Salem, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Girard at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.
