Basketball Recap: Zian Martinez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Anton over Meadow

After flying high against Amherst last Tuesday, Anton came back down to earth. The Anton Bulldogs took a 39-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Meadow Broncos. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncos apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zian Martinez, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds. The dominant performance gave Martinez a new career-high in boards. Shooter Campos was another key player, putting up 13 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Anton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matches.

Anton's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Meadow, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-14.

Anton has already played their next contest (against Wellman-Union), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Meadow is taking a road trip to square off against Cotton Center at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Meadow is facing Cotton Center at the right time seeing as Cotton Center is stuck on a 13-game losing streak.
